Michael Owen/Liverpool

Ready to Go

   written by G.Quaresma

Manchester United striker Michael Owen has declared himself fit for the club's Christmas fixtures. United face Sunderland again at Old Trafford on Boxing Day before travelling to Birmingham two days later and then West Brom on New Year's Day.

United remain unbeaten and have taken advantage of Chelsea's recent loss of form to move top of the table with three successive wins. Owen admits that, although the competition for places at United is tough, it does at least mean players do not have to be rushed back from injuries. That is crucial for the 31-year-old, who has suffered hamstring problems throughout his career and missed the end of last season - and had hopes of going to the World Cup with England ended - because of one.
He also had a groin injury earlier in the season and the Sunderland game was his only Premier League start of the current campaign.
"I injured my hamstring at the beginning of October, which kept me out for six weeks."
"Since then I've been able to train fully and work my way back up to full fitness - now I'm fit and hope to play a part in the games over Christmas."

Reds receive big injury boost

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has been boosted by the returns of Steven Gerrard and Daniel Agger ahead of the Boxing Day game at Blackpool. Gerrard has been out since tearing a hamstring in England's friendly against France on November 17.
Hodgson has received a second boost after Agger was deemed to have recovered from a complex calf problem which has sidelined him for the Reds since September 25.

"It is a big boost to have Gerrard back going into five games in 15 days," said Hodgson.

"Daniel Agger is also fit so there are only two players unavailable to me, one of whom is Jay Spearing who suffered a break to his ankle and is a month away."

"Jamie Carragher (dislocated shoulder) is still nine weeks away from coming back, if we are to believe the doctors, but knowing Jamie it would not surprise me if those nine weeks became less than that."

Hodgson also played down speculation he was looking to offload forward Milan Jovanovic, who only joined the club on a free transfer from Standard Liege in the summer.
